Biography
2009-2010: Gabriela owns the No.1 spot for the Vandal women, where she went 17-3 on the season after getting off to an 11-0 start. She was WAC player of the week for the week of February 22-28 for her performance against Portland, Seattle, and Portland State. She was a first-team all-WAC selection for both singles and doubles, and also earned a spot on the WAC all-tournament team for singles. She went 14-4 on the doubles court, and played at the No. 1 spot in every singles and doubles match she participated in. She helped lead the womenfs tennis team to 16 straight victories, and a 20-6 overall record. She ended the 2010 season winning her final five singles matches.
Prior to UI: Niculescu competed for two seasons for the University of Southern California. During the 2007-2008 season, Niculescu won the PAC-10 doubles championship and was ranked as high as 10 in the nation in doubles. Niculescu was a quarterfinalist at the NCAA championships in doubles and was named an All-American. During the 2008-2009 season, Niculescu finished the year ranked 5th in NCAA in doubles and 92nd in singles. She was as high as 38 in singles during the season. Niculescu won her second consecutive PAC-10 doubles title and along with her partner, Amanda Fink, was named PAC-10 doubles team of the year. During her two years at USC, Niculescu went 55-22 in singles.
High School: Nicelescu was a singles national champion in Romania in 200 and 2003. A member of Romaniafs national team that finished eighth at the Unver 18 European Team Championships and third at the Under 14 European Team Championships. Teamed with her younger sister Monica to win the doubles title at an ITF circut tournament in Antalya, Turkey, and also claimed the single title at the same event.
Personal: She is the daughter of Mihai and Silivia-Cristiana. Has one sister, Monica.
