To her already impressive list of accomplishments, University of Idaho senior Angela Whyte added recognition on the 2003 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars team.
Whyte, recently chosen the Female Athlete of the Year at the Big West Track and Field Meet, is among 72 female track and field athletes recognized in the April 10 issue of Black Issues in Higher Education for her accomplishments on the track and in the classroom.
Whyte, who graduated last weekend with a degree in Crime and Justice, is a third-team selection. Honorees had to blend athletic achievement with a minimum 3.2 grade-point average with community service to be considered for the award.
With the NCAA outdoor championships still on the horizon, Whyte already has three all-American honors for her past performances and was the 2003 Regional Athlete of the Year. In two Big West championship meets, she has five individual titles and three relay victories. She was the Athlete of the Meet at the 2001 Big West Championship Meet.
