Angela Whyte runs top time at Pan Am Games

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Idaho assistant coach Angela Whyte barely missed a meet record Tuesday at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, turning in the meet's top time in the qualifying heats of the women's 100m hurdles.

Whyte won heat two easily with a time of 12.68, her second-best the season, to qualify for Friday's final, barely missing the meet record of 12.66.

The competition comes fresh off the heels of a second-place finish at the Canadian Track and Field Championships, where Whyte ran a wind-aided 12.55.

Whyte's season and career best is a time of 12.63 in a fourth-place finish at the adidas Track Classic.

Vandal junior Diego Moreno-Guzman will be representing Peru in the men's 3,000m steeplechase on Saturday. Moreno-Guzman finished second in the event at the WAC Championships and 14th at the NCAA West Regional. Moreno-Guzman's career best in the steeplechase is 8:51.12.
