Vandal women fare well at Canadian Championships

WINDSOR, Ont. - Three Vandal women competed in the Canadian Track & Field Championships this weekend, bringing home a pair of second-place finishes and a world top-five time.

Assistant coach and former Idaho student-athlete Angela Whyte took second in the women's 100m hurdles with a personal-best 12.55 to move her up to fourth in the world in the event. Her previous personal best of 12.63 had put her at sixth in the world.

Senior Bevin Kennelly took second in the women's 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:29.02. Sophomore Christie Gordon finished ninth in the women's 100m hurdles, just missing the finals by one place with a time of 14.86.

The next action for Vandal track and field will be at the Pan American Games at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Whyte will be competing in the women's 100m hurdles for Canada, while junior Diego Guzman-Moreno will be competing in the men's 3,000m steeplechase for Peru.
