Colts pick Jake Scott in fifth round of NFL Draft

NEW YORK - Former University of Idaho offensive tackle Jake Scott was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round of the 2004 NFL Draft Sunday.

"I'm excited. It's a great opportunity and a great honor to be drafted," Scott said. "I know (the Colts) have a very good program, and they're definitely a contender to win a Super Bowl right now."

Scott originally walked on at Idaho before starting for four years and earning all-Sun Belt honors as a senior.

At Indianapolis, Scott will join former Vandal teammate and current Colts starter Rick DeMulling. The two played on the same offensive line when Scott was a redshirt freshman and DeMulling was a senior.

"That's definitely a positive," Scott said. "I'm really looking forward to playing with Rick again because he's such a good teammate. A great player and a great guy."

Scott first heard the news in the morning, minutes before he was selected.

"At about 10 o'clock I got a call from them. They said 'we're about to pick you next,'" he said. "It's hard to know what to think right now because there's still a long way to go."
