PULLMAN, Wash. - The Idaho Vandal track and field team had a good start to the indoor season at the WSU Open, by hitting NCAA provisional marks.
Sophomore Matt Wauters won the men?€™s open weight throw and hit the NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 63-03.50
?€œMatt continues to throw well,?€ť assistant coach Julie Taylor said. ?€œWe are excited for him hitting the provisional mark, and hopefully he?€™ll be in Arkansas for the NCAA Championships.?€ť
2005 All-American Russ Winger finished third with a mark of 59.09.50, while Marcus Mattox finished fourth with a mark of 59-05.50.
?€œI thought Russ did a nice job,?€ť Taylor said. ?€œI think his throws are coming along.?€ť
Jen Broncheau won the women?€™s open weight throw with mark of 54-11.50 and Shanna Lytle finished second with 47.03.50.
?€œJen did well, and her throws are right along with how she was doing last week,?€ť Taylor said.
The WSU Open concludes tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. with the remaining field and all running events.
