Vandals season ends in Reno

RENO, Nev. ? Idaho's second season in the Western Athletic Conference came to an end in the second round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament as they fell to No. 21 New Mexico State, 3-0. Game scores were 30-19, 30-19 and 30-13.

New Mexico State played very well and is a great representative within the WAC and of what a Top-25 program should be,” coach Debbie Buchanan said. “As we grow as a program and compete that is the level we are striving to reach. We passed very well at points in the match, but we committed too many errors and that is what lost the match.”

The Vandals were out hit on the night .352 to .055. NMSU also had fewer errors than Idaho as they had only 12 hitting errors and the Vandals had 27.

Lauren Mathis led the team in kills recording nine. Senior Stacy Sode led the squad in digs as she tallied 11 in her final match as a Vandal.

“We were hitting OK numbers in a lot of places especially going into the last game, but the errors got us in the end,” Buchanan said. “I really felt like what we were doing offensively was working very well.”
