BOISE, Idaho - The University of Idaho women's soccer team remained winless in the 2006 season with a 3-0 loss to Idaho State at the Governor's Cup Tournament.
Idaho State (2-2-0) used three first-half goals to down Idaho (0-3-0) who have yet to score a goal this season.
"Idaho State came at us and we stood back and let them do what they wanted in the first half," Idaho coach Pete Showler said. "We were second to the ball everywhere. We were reacting to what was going on around us instead of dictating. We got down 3-0 at halftime and were a little shell shocked. In the second half the light came on. We played much better but it was too much to come back from. It was a tough mountain to climb."
The first goal of the game was an Idaho own goal in the 14th minute. Idaho State then scored in the 26th and 44th minutes.
"We have shown we can play in each game we have played this season, we just don't do it over a sustained period of time. We have to put things together and believe we can. I know we will get there," Showler said.
The Bengals held the advantage in shots (16-7) and corner kicks (6-1). The Vandals were led by Courtney Evans with two shots.
The Vandals remain in Boise for the second game of the tournament vs. Montana, Sunday, at 10:30 p.m.
