MOSCOW ? University of Idaho junior pole vaulter Melinda Owen has withdrawn from the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as a result of a foot injury during the NCAA West Regional meet.
Owen hurt her foot during a warm-up run at the NCAA West Regional, where she finished in a tie for eighth with a vault of 12-11¾, despite altering her approach at the meet. X-rays revealed a broken bone in the foot.
Owen finished the season ranked 13th in the nation in the women's pole vault and also earned her second-straight WAC outdoor pole vault title, which is her fifth overall WAC title. The NCAA trip would have been her second career trip. She qualified for the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships in the pole vault, where she finished fifth and earned All-America honors.
