MOSCOW ? After four seasons as an original member of the University of Idaho women's swimming and diving program, Adriana Quirke isn't ready to leave the Vandals quite yet.
The former school record holder has been announced as the first full-time assistant coach of the Vandal swimming and diving program since the team was re-established at Idaho in 2004 after a 19-year absence.
“I am very excited to have Adriana help me build a successful program here at the University of Idaho,” Head coach Tom Jager said. “Adriana has a great deal of pride in the University of Idaho and our swim and dive program. She is a strong leader and her passion for this program will benefit our athletes and the athletic department.”
Quirke joined the original Vandal class of swimmers in 2004 as a transfer from San Diego State. Her teammates identified her as a leader immediately, and she was named team captain in her very first year. The following season in 2005-06, Quirke competed in the 400m and 800m freestyle relays, as well as the 200m individual medley, which she swam in 2:11.70 to break the school record at the time. Her record stood until teammate Crystal Streight swam a 2:11.66 last season.
Quirke originally hails from Eugene, Ore. She graduated from Idaho in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Science.
“Adriana knows what it is to be a Vandal and she will be a wonderful teacher of all things Vandal,” Jager said.
