Women?s Tennis Puts In Good Showing At Cougar Classic

PULLMAN, Wash. ? It was a good start to season for women's tennis at the Cougar Classic this weekend.

The tournament started on Friday and featured a deep field with Washington State University, Boise State University, Gonzaga University, and Portland State University amongst the teams taking part.

“We had a solid start to the season,” women's tennis head coach Tyler Neill said. “After a tough start on the first day, our team bounced back well with a strong day on Saturday.”

The highlights for the Vandals included freshman Annamaria Gould advancing into the semifinals of the No. 4 singles draw and the team of Yvette Ly and Alexandra Ulesanu emerging victorious against the Gonzaga team of Kokurina /Dodge and the WSU team of Selaru/Nicolas in the No. 1 Doubles draw.

“It was good for everyone on the team to get some matches,” Neill said. “Everyone on the team won at least one round which really shows the depth we have on this team.”

The Vandals will travel to Spokane next weekend to take part in the Eastern Washington University/Gonzaga University Fall Invitational.

“Hopefully we can build upon this start next week when we play in the EWU/Gonzaga tournament,” Neill said.
