Conwell earns Player of the Week honor

DENVER - Idaho senior outside hitter Sarah Conwell has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 19-25. This is the third WAC Player of the Week honor of the season for Conwell and the third of her career.

The Kent, Wash. (Kentwood HS), native tallied 56 kills, 38 digs and 12 blocks as Idaho went 3-0 in WAC matches last week to remain in third place in the conference standings. Conwell averaged 5.09 kills, 3.45 digs and 1.09 blocks per set and tallied double-doubles in all three matches to move her season total to a WAC-best 10. She opened the week just shy of a triple-double, posting career highs of 28 kills and eight blocks to go along with 14 digs in a five-set win over Utah State. Conwell followed that up with 13 kills, 11 digs and three blocks in a sweep of Fresno State. In final match of the week, a sweep of Utah State, she posted 15 kills and 13 digs.

Conwell's three Player of the Week honors are the most for an Idaho player in a single season and ties for the most in a career. She has earned the honor twice in the last three weeks.

The third-place Vandals play two matches at home this week where they are 4-0 with three sweeps on the season. Idaho hosts Gonzaga Tuesday (Oct. 27) and New Mexico State Thursday (Oct. 29) at Memorial Gym. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
