Volleyball dominates in sweep

MOSCOW, Idaho - The University of Idaho volleyball team found its form in a dominating sweep of Louisiana Tech in Western Athletic Conference action Thursday at Memorial Gym.

Idaho (7-9, 3-1) trailed for just four serves in the match and won with scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-17. Louisiana Tech fell to 12-9 overall and 2-3 in WAC play.

"Our defense and serving have been great so our focus has been on passing and getting kills and we did a much better job of that tonight," Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said. "Our passing was much improved and when we do that we can run our offense effectively. Our next step is to have consistency and keep this going through the next matches."

Sarah Conwell paced the Vandals with 18 kills and a.250 hitting percentage while adding 11 digs and five blocks. Kelsey Taylor had little trouble with the Lady Techster defense as she tallied 11 kills with zero errors on 17 attempts for a .647 hitting percentage. Defensively, Meredith Rice tallied 18 digs and Cassie Hamilton finished with 14 while Debbie Pederson led the Vandals with six blocks.

As a team, Idaho hit .243 with 44 kills and held Louisiana Tech to a .064 hitting percentage and 30 kills. The Vandals also held the advantage in digs (63-47) and blocks (10-5).

Idaho continues a busy week with matches at Fresno State Saturday (Oct. 10) and at Boise State Monday (Oct. 12).
