Hopson is WAC Player of the Week

DENVER - Idaho's Mac Hopson has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 16-22. The honor marks the first career WAC Player of the Week award for Hopson.

Hopson, a junior from Portland, Ore. (Washington State), led the Vandals to a pair of wins over Boise State (56-54) and Cal State Northridge (78-75). Hopson led Idaho to its first win at Boise State since 1999, scoring a game-high 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting. He also added five rebounds, four assists and one steal in the win. The junior guard also helped the Vandals to their first-ever BracketBuster win. Hopson registered 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting in the victory against Cal State Northridge. He also had six assists and four steals in the game.

On the week, Hopson averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game. He shot 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the field and was 2-of-3 from long range. He also hit 7-of-12 free throws.

Hopson is the second Idaho player to earn WAC Player of the Week honors this season after Brandon Wiley was honored for the week of Jan. 19-25. Hopson's award is Idaho's fourth since joining the WAC in 2005.

Idaho plays WAC road contests this week at San Jose State Thursday (Feb. 26) and Fresno State Saturday (Feb. 28). Both games begin at 7 p.m. PT.
