Landon Tatum signs with men's basketball

MOSCOW, Idaho ? Landon Tatum, a junior college champion and all-star, has signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Idaho and play basketball for the Vandals in the fall.

Tatum is a guard who was the only player to start all 31 games last season for a South Plains College team that finished with a 27-4 overall record and advanced to the Region 5 title game. He averaged 7.1 points and 5.8 assists per game and shot 46-percent from the floor as the team's leader in minutes played. His efforts earned him a spot on the Western Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference Team and a selection to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Star Team.

“Landon is a strong, athletic point guard who has helped his team win at every level, as proven over the last two years at South Plains College where his team had a combined record of 57-9,” Idaho coach Don Verlin said. “He is a very good player, but a better person and we are extremely excited to have Landon as part of our Vandal basketball program.”

As a freshman, Tatum averaged 6.1 points and 5.3 assists per game and helped the Texans to the NJCAA National Title. He had season-highs of 18 points and 15 assists vs. Howard.

A 2007 graduate of O'Connor High School at Helotes, Texas, Tatum averaged 19 points, five rebounds and four assists in helping his team win the District 28-5A Championship. He earned numerous honors as a senior, including District MVP, All-State, All-Region and First Team All-District. He also earned All-Region and First Team All-District honors as a junior and was a TABC All-State and THSCA All-Star during his high school career.

On why he chose the University of Idaho Tatum said, "I felt the community is really behind the coaches. On my visit, everywhere we went people were coming up to them and congratulating them on their season and all the guys are excited about next season and looking to improve."

Tatum will be reuniting with former Texan Luciano de Souza at Idaho.
