MOSCOW - The University of Idaho women's soccer program announced the hiring of Niki Brooks as the team's second assistant on Friday.
Brooks, who played four seasons at Portland State, comes to Idaho from Pacific University (Ore.), where she was an assistant coach for two seasons. Prior to that, she was an assistant at Linfield College for two years.
"She's got the experience of being on a championship-winning college program, so she knows the qualities that are needed to reach that level," Idaho head coach Pete Showler said. "She's gained further experience by assisting on two Division-III programs.
"That, combined with her USSF coaching licenses, make a great package as a goalkeepers coach and someone with great knowledge of the game."
Brooks helped Portland State win the 2004 Big Sky regular-season conference title and left the school ranked third all-time in shutouts, goals-allowed average, saves and saves per game. She started 39 games and played in 44 overall. Her seven shutouts 2004 are tied for seventh-most in Big Sky single-season history.
Brooks earned her bachelor's degree in Physical Activity and Exercise in 2006 and her master's degree in Secondary Education in 2010, both from Portland State.
Showler also announced that the team has added two players from the open tryout session. Defender Kora Barnes, a freshman from Helena, Mont. (Capital HS), and sophomore midfielder Estefania Mondragon from Nampa, Idaho (Skyview HS), earned spots on the roster.
