PULLMAN, Wash. -- After two days of the Cougar Classic women's tennis tournament hosted by Washington State, the Idaho women's tennis team has turned in some quality performances, highlighted by Yvette Ly, who will play in the round of eight on Sunday.

Ly defeated Portland State's Tara Vadali 6-0, 6-1 in the round of 16 on Saturday, after winning her quarterfinal match against Montana's Madeline Murray, 5-7, 7-5, 6-0. Idaho's Lauren Simpson fell in the round of 16, 6-4, 7-5 to Marlena Pietzuch of Boise State.

Barbara Maciocha, Molly Knox, Silvia Irimescu and Victoria Lozano each had wins in consolation singles action Saturday as well.

"I was happy with our overall singles play. Friday was a little rough for us as a team and I thought we bounced back nicely," Idaho coach Tyler Neill said. "We looked much more confident today and that was reflected in our results.  Yvette played really well.  She battled hard and deserved both of her wins."

In consolation doubles action, Jana Siwa and Silvia Irimescu beat a pair of Gonzaga tandems 8-1 and 8-6.

"I was impressed with Silvia and Jana's performance today in doubles.  They had two nice wins and showed a lot of resilience in their final win," Neill said.

The tournament will conclude on Sunday in Pullman.
