Volleyball falls at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Idaho volleyball team dropped its second match at the Community Bankers Classic in Stockton, Calif., Friday night, falling 3-0 to host Pacific.

The Tigers took 25-20, 25-19 and 25-20 set victories to win the match. Idaho falls to 2-3 on the season with the loss while Pacific improves to 3-1.

The Vandals hit .185 as a team for the match, but couldn't keep up with Pacific's .320 pace.

"I thought they were a good offensive team," Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said. "They're really smart, they definitely out-passed us."

The first set stayed close throughout, and was tied at 17 when Pacific won four straight points to go up 21-17 on its way to a 25-10 set win.

After Idaho pulled within 15-13 in the second set, the Tigers were able to rally again, winning four of the next five points to go ahead 19-14 en route to a 25-19 win.

The Vandals fell behind early in the third set, and trailed by as many as eight at 17-9 before storming all the way back to pull within one at 20-19. But again Pacific weathered the storm, and closed out the match with a 25-20 set win.

"I think we definitely played better as the match went on," Buchanan said. "For us, the biggest thing is we have to be better at passing the ball. Until we do that it's going to be hard to run a balanced offense. We're going to make some errors here or there but we have to make sure we're putting it all into it."

Junior Alicia Milo led the way for Idaho with 13 kills and a .265 hitting percentage to go along with six digs and two blocks. Allison Walker had 10 kills in the match, and Kelsey Taylor had four blocks, three kills and two digs. Setter Jenny Feicht finished with 30 assists.

The Vandals will make their home debut in Memorial Gym on Sept. 9 against Cal Poly, and will also host Eastern Washington on Sept. 10 and Montana State on Sept. 12.

"It's going to be nice to be home," Buchanan said. "It's a good feeling which will be good for us. We need to get better going into next week."
