Soccer falls short

BOISE, Idaho – Inconsistency reared its ugly head again for University of Idaho soccer on Saturday, as the Vandal women followed up a solid first 45 minutes with a slow second half in a 1-0 loss at Boise State.

Idaho (7-10-3) outshot Boise State (8-10-1) by a 14-10 overall margin, but couldn't break through for the score, while the Broncos snuck in a looping shot from the corner of the box in the 70th minute for the game-winner.

“We played well in the first half, then didn't come out and do it in the second,” Idaho head coach Pete Showler said. “We got what we deserved today.”

The loss ended Idaho's hopes of becoming the first team to win three-straight Governor's Cup titles in the in-state round-robin tournament between Idaho, BSU and Idaho State. Both teams beat ISU in September at Guy Wicks Field.

Idaho junior forward Chelsea Small led all players with five total shots, while junior keeper made four saves in 90 minutes.

While the regular season is now over for the Vandals, they continue play next week at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament against an opponent that will be decided in tomorrow's final WAC matches.

The first round of the WAC Tournament starts on Thursday, Nov. 3, at Fresno, Calif.
