University of Idaho coach Paul Petrino added another linebacker to his first recruiting class with the signing of Juan Martinez from City College of San Francisco.

“Juan is big, fast and a great player,” said Petrino of Martinez, who is 6-3, 235 and joins CCSF teammate Kris Olugbode in signing with the Vandals. “He will be a great leader for our defense.”

Martinez was a key contributor on the Rams' 2012 state runner-up. As a sophomore, Martinez totaled 38 tackles (19 solo and 19 assists) as well as one sack (-10 yards) and 3.5 tackles for loss (-22 yards).

“We are very excited to have him in the Vandal family,” Petrino said.

Martinez is a 2010 graduate of Napa (Calif.) High School.
