MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's basketball is already bolstering its lineup for next season, with two new athletes signing their letters of intent. Tre'von Allen and Brayon “BJ” Blake, welcome to Idaho.
Allen, a 6-2 point guard, led Clarkston High School to the Washington 2A State Championship last season, earning Great Northern League Player of the Year accolades. Allen averaged 20 points per game as a junior, helping Clarkston post an overall record of 26-1. Allen also plays football at Clarkston, where he is a standout wide receiver.
Allen is no stranger to Moscow, as both his parents graduated from the University. His father, Alan Allen, played football for the Vandals in the early 1990's. Allen was also considering an offer from Eastern Washington, but chose Idaho because of his connection with the coaching staff and the team.
“We are happy to have Tre'von join the Vandal family,” said head coach Don Verlin. “Tre'von brings with him a swagger of a champion and a belief that nothing is impossible and those beliefs come from his family. He comes from a great and supportive family and it carries over in his game on the court and his character off of it as well. He will bring great instincts, shooting and the ability to play multiple positions.”
Blake will join the Vandals after spending two seasons in junior college. A 6-7 wing, Blake played for Cochise College in 2014-15, where he averaged 16.4 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. This year, Blake is averaging 21.0 points, five rebounds and 1.5 assists per game for North Idaho. Blake started out the year with a 28-point performance against Sheridan College, going 10-of-19 from the field.
Originally from Seattle, Blake made a name for himself at Garfield High School where he helped lead the squad to an overall record of 27-1 during his senior season. At the time, Garfield was ranked as high as second in the state of Washington and 26th in the nation. Blake averaged nearly 15 points and 10 rebounds per game that year.
“BJ is an outstanding athlete that plays basketball with a passion I love,” Verlin said. “He brings it with intensity and instincts on a nightly basis. He is a great fit in our program and he got along great with our players on his visit to campus. We are extremely lucky to have Brayon as a Vandal.”
