UCLA Ends Vandals' Season

LOS ANGELES— Idaho's golden season came to a close with its 4-0 loss No. 6 UCLA at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on Saturday.

"This was an amazing season for us," head coach Mariana Cobra commented. "I am so proud of how we competed today and the entire year. UCLA is a highly ranked team for a reason."

The seventh seeded Bruins got the early doubles point with wins on two of the three courts. Galina Bykova and Emmie Marx had their work cut out for them on the No.1 court. They matched up with the No. 9 ranked doubles team in the nation of Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady. The UCLA duo took the court, 8-2, to clinch the point. Play on the No. 2 court went the way of UCLA to begin the match with an 8-1 win.

Singles play would not get any easier for the Vandals. UCLA's lineup on Saturday featured five national ranked players. No. 33 Catherine Harrison put the Bruins up 2-0 with consecutive 6-0 wins over Rita Bermudez. Belen Barcenilla dropped her match to UCLA's Terri Fleming on the No. 5 court, 1-6, 0-6. Andersonn, the No. 1 ranked player in the nation, defeated Bykova, 6-1, 6-2, to clinch the match.

"Today was a tough day to end for our seniors," Cobra added. "We are going to miss them and everything they have brought to this program. We have really become a family and I am proud of this team for making our season run as long as possible."

Idaho finishes the season with a 15-9 record. The Silver and Gold advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season with a 4-3 win over Sacramento State, breaking the Hornets 13-year run as Big Sky Champions.
