Trio of Vandals Earn NABC Recognition

MOSCOW, Idaho – A trio of Vandals, Chad Sherwood, Nate Sherwood and Jake Straughan, have been recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as members of the NABC Honors Court.
 
Chad Sherwood, an organizational sciences major, moved into the starting role as the year progressed, finishing at 6.3 points per contest.  The junior nailed 46 3's on the season and shot better than 90 percent from the free throw line.
 
Nate Sherwood is currently majoring in engineering and started 32 games last season, scoring 6.8 points per game and grabbing 5.5 boards per contest.  He also earned the Kathy Clark Award for combined academic and athletic excellence, awarded yearly to a member of the team.
 
Straughan, a psychology major, appeared in 17 contests for the Vandals in 2016-17.  His best game came on the road at Idaho State, when he knocked down a pair of 3's in a close game to help the Vandals pull away and earn the win.
 
To qualify, athletes must be a junior or senior academically and must have competed in 2016-17.  Athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 following the 2016-17 academic year.
 
The Vandals enjoyed a tremendous season on the court, finishing tied for third in the Big Sky Conference and advancing to the semifinals of the Big Sky Tournament in Reno.  Idaho accepted a bid to the 2017 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, where the Vandals would go on to trounce Stephen F. Austin before falling at Texas State.
