MOSCOW, Idaho—University of Idaho men's golf coach
David Nuhn announced the team's schedule for the 2017-18 season on Wednesday. The season includes 10 tournaments up and down the western region, leading up to the Big Sky Championship at the end of April.
"I am really excited about the schedule we have put together for this upcoming season," Coach Nuhn stated. "I think the venues are fantastic. There are some beautiful courses that will test our player's games. It certainly is a schedule that will prepare us to compete at a very high level come time for the Big Sky Championship and NCAA Tournaments."
The Vandals will tee it up at Palouse Ridge to begin the fall, playing in the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate hosted by Washington State, Sept. 11-12, in Pullman. Idaho is familiar with the tournament, making its second consecutive trip across the state line to open the season.
Idaho will have a pair of back-to-back tournaments in Colorado to round out September. The Vandals will return to the Ram Masters at the Fort Collins Country Club, Sept. 18-19. The team continues with the Mark Simpson Invitational, Sept. 25-26, hosted at Colorado National Golf Club, the site of the 2017 Pac-12 Championship.
The Vandals close out the fall at the Southern Dunes Invitational, Oct. 14-15, in Phoenix, Ariz., and the Princeville Warrior Invitational, Oct. 29-31, hosted by Hawaii. The trip off the mainland will mark Idaho's second visit to the Princeville Resort, having played the tournament last season.
"A lot of the tournament locations this season offer very favorable weather," Nuhn continued. "Our guys will be able to play in some great locations that will challenge them to be at their best. I look forward to the experiences our team will be able to have. I appreciate all the host coaches for having the Vandals in their field."
The team will open the spring in San Diego, Calif., Feb. 12-13, at the Pro Compression Invitational played at The Farms Country Club. It will be Idaho's second trip to The Farms in as many seasons. The team also opened the 2017 spring season at the course.
February closes with the Wyoming Desert Classic, Feb. 16-18, hosted by the University of Wyoming. The tournament will be played at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
Idaho next returns to the Pacific Northwest for a pair of tournaments. The Bandon Dunes Championship is set for Mar. 10-13. The tournament, hosted by Gonzaga, will be played on the Pacific Dunes course. The Vandals will then face the challenge of playing Chambers Bay, Apr. 2-3, at the Chambers Bay Invitational. The tournament, hosted by Seattle U, was also the site of the 2015 U.S. Open.
The El Macero Classic Invitational, hosted by UC-Davis, is the team's final tune-up before the Big Sky Championship. Idaho returns to the three-day tournament, Apr. 14-16, for the second consecutive season.
The Big Sky Championship returns to Boulder Creek Golf Course for its third-year in-a-row. The championship will be held Apr. 27-29. The Vandals have had success on the course, winning the first Big Sky title at the site in 2016.
