SPOKANE, Wash.— The Vandals traveled to Spokane for the first time as a team this season at the Gonzaga Bulldog Invitational.
 
Idaho placed third twice on Sunday, with Maria Tavares and Shion Watabe defeating Seattle University in Bulldog Doubles Draw, while Maggie Chen and Laura Spataro took third overall in the Zag Double Draw.
 
Tavares and Watabe opened with a 6-1 advantage over Eastern Washington. The two then fell to Gonzaga in a 6-1 defeat before claiming third place over Seattle.
 
Placed in a different draw, Chen and Spataro also saw success early in the tournament defeating Montana State 6-3. The Vandals then compete against teammates Marta Magalhães and Anna Findley. Chen and Spataro came out on top taking the match in a close 8-6 victory. Both would later be defeated by Washington (6-4) before claiming third place over Gonzaga (7-5).
 
Idaho's Marianna Petrei was absent from the tournament. Petrei competed at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. She was selected to compete in the main draw, which began on Friday. Petrei fell to Kansas' Anastasia Rychagova (7-5,6-2) in the opening round of play. However, that wasn't the end for Petrei as she went to take on Sara Castellano of Wisconsin. Petrei would end her run at the ITA All-American Championships after falling to Castellano, 6-0 and 6-2.
