Box Score GREELEY, Colo.—The Vandal men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Big Sky play on Sunday. Idaho defeated Northern Colorado 6-1, completing the weekend sweep.Â
Idaho (2-3, 2-0) got the 1-0 advantage to open the match.
Esteban Santibanez and
Felipe Fonseca got the Vandals going with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. The recently ranked pair of
Mark Kovacs and
Carlos Longhi Neto scored a 6-3 win at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point.
The Vandals went on to win five of the six singles matches on the way to victory. Fonseca put together a 6-4, 7-5 triumph at the No. 4 position. Longi Neto added to the Vandal lead with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win at No. 2.
Guilherme Scarpelli scored the clincher for the Vandals at No. 3. He defeated UNC's Nick Wade after dropping the first set (3-6, 6-3, 6-0).
Lucas Coutinho and Santibanez closed the day out on courts No. 5 and 6. Coutinho won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5, while Santibanez concluded 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 at No. 6.
The Silver and Gold will next be in action against Weber State on Feb. 25.Â
