LAS VEGAS- Idaho women's golf moved up the leaderboard Tuesday, in the final round of the Rebel Beach Invitational. The Vandals shot a 10-over 298, one of just four teams in the field to shoot under 300 on the last day of play at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas. Idaho finished in ninth, carding a 55-over 919 total score.
"We putted much better today, which was one of our main goals for today," said head coach
Lisa Johnson. "We didn't like our position after the second round, so we made an effort to move up the leaderboard. Any upward movement was considered a positive, and we were able to do that."
Four Vandals rallied to post top-50 individual finishes, led by
Sophie Hausmann tying for 28th. Hausmann shot an even-par 72 Tuesday, tied for the third-best final-round score in the field, and closed the tournament at 12-over (228).
Valeria Patino also fired a 72 on the last day to climb into a tie for 37th at 14-over (230).
Michelle Kim (t-43rd; 232) and
Laura Gerner (t-48th; 234) also rounded out the tournament in the top 50.
"We played well today, but this should be about what we're shooting on a regular basis," Johnson said. "As we discussed as a team, it's better to have a tournament like this now than late in the spring. We'll learn from it now and be more consistent moving forward."
The Vandals return to action March 5-6, at the Meadow Club Women's Collegiate in Fairfax, Calif.
