Idaho women's swimming and diving hosts College of Idaho Saturday, in the Vandals' regular-season finale. The meet starts at 2 p.m., at the U of I Swim Center.
Â
ABOUT COLLEGE OF IDAHO: The Yotes (4-4) are coming off a 179-64 win against Soka, taking 14 of the 15 events. College of Idaho will be heading to the NAIA Championships at the end of February. Returning All-American Maddy Kelly has earned automatic qualifying marks in five events. Â
Â
COMING FULL CIRCLE: The Vandals started the 2017-18 season on the road against the Yotes. Idaho emerged with a 228-61 victory, including wins in 15 of the 16 events. Twelve different Vandals posted individual victories, while Allie Magrino swept the backstroke events.
Â
FREESTYLE COMPETITION: The sprint freestyle races are shaping up to be the most exciting Saturday. Maddy Kelly earned the Yotes' lone event win against Idaho in October, capturing the 100-yard freestyle. Kelly has a season-best time of 52.27, checking in one second behind U of I leader
Leah Fisk (51.27). Kelly's time would rank third for the Vandals.
Â
ACADEMIC DISTINCTION: The Vandals were honored for their hard work in the classroom during the fall 2017 semester. The team posted a combined 3.43 grade-point average, earning distinction as a Scholar All-America Team from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America. The 3.43 GPA is a program record for the fall. Nine Vandals recorded a 4.0 GPA this last semester, and more than half the team made the Dean's list.
Â
LOOKING AHEAD: After the Vandals last home meet for the season, the women will be traveling to the WAC Championships (Feb. 21-24) in Houston.
