BOISE—Idaho women's tennis battled a familiar foe in non-conference action on Saturday. The Vandals defeated Montana State, 6-1, at the Appleton Tennis Center.
Maggie Chen and
Marta Magalhães opened the match with an impressive 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. Idaho's
Lucia Badillos and
Laura Spataro clinched the doubles point for Idaho at No. 2. The pair improved to 6-0 on the season with its 6-4 decision. Idaho's top pairing of
Marianna Petrei and
Maria Tavares closed out the doubles session with a 7-5 win.
Badillos, playing out of the No. 2 position, picked up Idaho's second point of the afternoon. She went 6-2, 6-4 over Montana State's Annie Walker. Spataro picked up her first win of the season at the No. 3 court, walking away with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Shion Watabe shut the door with her 6-1, 6-0 clincher on the No. 4 court.
Tavares, playing at the No. 1 slot for the first time this season, concluded Idaho's afternoon with her 6-0, 6-2 win.
The Vandals remain in Boise for the weekend, closing out the trip against Boise State on Sunday.
