Vandals Shutout Vikings

Idaho wins fifth straight

LEWISTON, Idaho—Idaho women's tennis concluded the week with its fifth consecutive win. The Vandals took care of business, 7-0, over Portland State on Friday, improving to 6-1 in the Big Sky.

Idaho started the day with a 1-0 lead before play even got underway. Portland State was unable to compete at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

The Vandals only needed one win in doubles to pick up their second point. That win came at No. 2 from Maggie Chen and Laura Spataro. The Idaho pairing walked away with a quick 6-1 win, adding to a win by default at No. 3.

Singles began with a 2-0 advantage for the Vandals. Idaho closed out the match with ease, picking up a pair of 6-0, 6-2 wins right out of the gate. Lucia Badillos improved to 5-2 in conference play, defeating PSU's Eszter Zador at No. 2. Shion Watabe picked up the clincher. She recorded her sixth conference win, earning the point at No. 4.

Maria Tavares continued at the top position for the Vandals. She remains unbeaten in the No. 1 slot with her 6-1, 6-4 win over Siena Peri. Spataro added her third win of the season at No. 3, while Chen closed the day with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5.

The Vandals enter the final stretch of the season with just four remaining matches left on the schedule. Idaho will head to Montana next week for a pair of matches, starting with Montana on Friday.
