KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. - Idaho women's golf senior
Sophie Hausmann is tied for ninth at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship after shooting a 3-under 68 Monday, in the first round of stroke play at the Golf Club of Tennessee. The second round of stroke play will take place Tuesday, before the field is cut to 64 players for six rounds of match play.
Hausmann started her round on the back nine, recording a birdie on 12 and a bogey on 15 to sit even through her first six holes. She responded with birdies on 16 and 17 to make the turn at 2-under. The reigning Big Sky Golfer of the Year played the front nine bogey free and added a birdie on two to come into the clubhouse at 3-under. She is two strokes off the lead, held by Alexa Pano.
The top 60 players are currently at or under par. The top 64 at the end of Tuesday's second round will advance to match play. A playoff will be held if necessary to narrow the field to exactly 64 competitors.
Hausmann is set to tee off her second round Tuesday, at 7:33 a.m. CT. Her mother, Katrin, is serving as her caddy.
Hausmann qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur by earning co-medalist honors with a 3-under 69, July 18, at a qualifier in Scottsdale, Ariz.
