MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho Athletics has announced the appointment of former Washington State Assistant
Julia Goodson as the new Head Women's Golf Coach, Monday, pending completion of State of Idaho human resource processes.
"We are thrilled to welcome Julia to lead our women's golf program," Senior Associate Athletic Director and golf sport supervisor
Garrett Haldeman said. "Her experience on the Palouse gives her valuable insight into our program and the region where she will recruit and coach. Her experience as a player at two championship programs gives her experience in what an elite mid-major program looks like. We feel that her background and personality will fit well into our institutional culture."
Goodson comes to Idaho after two years as the assistant coach at Washington State, where she helped the Cougars earn a fifth-place finish at the West Coast Conference Championship last spring. Cougar Madelyn Gamble advanced to the NCAA Regional in 2024.
Before Washington State she served for one year as the assistant coach at East Tennessee State, her alma mater. She helped the Bucs finish fourth at the SoCon Championship.
She was a four-year Division I golfer, playing three seasons and earning her bachelor's degree at perennial MAC Champion Kent State before transferring to East Tennessee for her senior season where she earned a master's degree and helped lead the Bucs to a SoCon Championship, earning SoCon All-Conference honors in the process.
She is a native of Hudson, Ohio.
"I am beyond excited and honored to be the next head women's golf coach at the University of Idaho," Goodson Said. "Thank you to
Terry Gawlik,
Garrett Haldeman and the hiring committee for this opportunity and for their belief in me. I look forward to representing a university that values student-athlete experience and prioritizes excellence both in the classroom and on the golf course. I can't wait to be a part of the strong Vandal community and I'm eager to lead this program towards even more success. Go Vandals!"
The Vandals begin practice next week with the start of school and open the season on Sept. 15-16 at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate in Bozeman, Montana.
