ITA RELEASE

TEMPE, Ariz. – Senior tennis star, Marianna Petrei, continues to move up the national rankings.  She will start the 2018-19 season with the highest Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranking of her career, as the No. 20 player in the country.
 
Petrei finished last season ranked No. 32 in the nation by the ITA and became the first Vandal ever to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship.  Petrei advanced to the round of 32, winning her first match of the Championship.
 
Petrei is the only student-athlete from the Big Sky and is one of just three from outside the Power Five.  The other two hail from Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount, two perennial powers from the West Coast Conference.

She will begin her 2018-19 season on Sept. 20, at the prestigious Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif.
 
On the year, Petrei defeated five ranked opponents and continued her perfect record in Big Sky matches with a 9-0 mark.  For her career, she is 30-0 in Big Sky play.
 
The squad has been incredible in recent years, winning five consecutive conference championships, including four straight since rejoining the Big Sky.
