PULLMAN, Wash. – Idaho track and field made the quick trip across the border on Saturday for the WSU Indoor Meet. Several Vandals took home individual wins, while
Henrike Fiedler was able to break the meet record in her event.
Fiedler was the star of the show on Saturday, breaking the meet record to win the long jump with a leap of 5.90 meters (19-4.25). The jump is the best of her short career, and is tied for the best in the Big Sky so far this season.
For the second consecutive week,
Ben Doucette set a new personal best en route to a win in the 60-meter hurdles. He won his prelim at 8.00 seconds, then set a new PR to take the final at 7.87 seconds.
Mack Baxter took the win in the 400-meters with a time of 51.00 seconds.
Zachary Short dominated in the shot put competition, winning with a toss of 18.02 meters (59-1.50).
Lauren Paven had a solid day overall. She took second in the 400-meters at 59.39 seconds to move into the top-20 in the Big Sky in the event. She also placed third in the 200-meters with a time of 26.55 seconds.
Hannah Ringel placed third in the shot put after throwing 13.47 meters (44-2.50).
Fabian Cardenas finished third in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:46.49.
DAY 1
Karina Moreland edged
Jordyn Rauer in the triple jump to take second overall. Moreland's best leap of the night landed at 11.54 meters (37-10.50), while Rauer finished at 11.47 meters (37-7.25).
Jonny Magee placed fourth in the men's event at 13.92 meters (45-8.00), moving into the top-five in the Big Sky in the event.
Cullen Williams and
Short placed third and fourth in the weight throw. Williams broke 17 meters for the first time this season with a toss of 17.49 meters (57-4.75) while Short threw a PR of 16.83 meters (55-2.75).
