MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho (11-11, 7-3 BSC) cruised by Idaho State (6-16, 3-7 BSC) on Saturday night in the ICCU Battle of the Domes, sweeping the Bengals in a 3-0 victory.
Idaho was led by Kennedy Warren's 12 kills, while Nikki Ball and Avery Housley both tallied nine kills. Delaney Hopen led the Vandals with 15 digs, while Donnee Jazen recorded 37 assists.
The Bengals kept things close in the beginning of set one, but with Idaho leading 7-5, two kills by Housley and a service ace by Hopen started to increase the cushion for the Vandals. The home team would easily go on to win the first set, 25-15.
Idaho State would jump out to and early 2-0 lead in set two, but Idaho would not be kept down. A 5-0 run by the Vandals catapulted them into the lead, which they would never relinquish. With Idaho leading 20-15, the two teams had an epic point, capped off by a Housley kill, and the Vandals would use that momentum to win, 25-17, taking a 2-0 lead on the night.
The third set was a battle all the way. At one point, Idaho took an 18-13 lead, but Idaho State clawed back into it, tying things up, 19-19. The Vandals could feel the victory though, and gutted out the 25-23 win to secure the sweep.
The Vandals head back on the road, taking on Sacramento State on Thursday, October 31, at 7 p.m.
