SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Idaho volleyball (11-12, 7-4 BSC) stumbled on the road at Sacramento State (12-12, 7-4 BSC), falling to the Hornets in five sets.
Kennedy Warren recorded a career-high 25 kills while
Nikki Ball finished with 12.
Kyra Palmbush had a balanced night with seven kills and seven blocks.
Sacramento State got out to a strong start, eventually getting up 14-12 and forcing a timeout from head coach
Debbie Buchanan. The strategy worked out and Idaho went on a quick 7-3 run after the break to flip the lead and force a timeout from Sacramento State. The stoppage in play didn't affect the Vandals, who kept the streak alive with three straight points after the timeout and then cruised to the 25-21 win.
Idaho led early and essentially throughout in the second set, save for a 5-1 run from Sacramento State that put the Hornets up 9-8. It didn't take long for the Vandals to reclaim the lead and eventually win, 25-20.
The third set was all Hornets. Sacramento State won, 25-13, to force a fourth. Sacramento State pulled away late in the fourth to win, 25-19. The Hornets got out to a strong start in the fifth and were able to maintain for the 15-11 win.
The road trip continues at Portland State at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
