MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho volleyball team fell to the top-ranked University of Northern Colorado, 3-0, on Friday evening. The match was Senior Day for the Vandals, with Delaney Hopen and Paige Rupiper being honored for their contributions to the program prior to the game.
Nikki Ball (12) and Avery Housley (11) both finished with double digit kills in the match. Senior Hopen tallied 12 digs, while Donnée Janzen recorded 32 assists.
The first set was back-and-forth, but the Bears (20-7, 14-1 BSC) eventually pulled out the 25-22 win. The second set was just as close, with the Vandals (13-15, 9-7 BSC) holding a narrow lead for most of the set. The Bears were able to tie things up, 20-20, and eventually, UNC was able to edge Idaho, 25-23, to take the 2-0 lead in the match.
The Vandals and Bears traded sideouts in the third set, with Idaho holding a slim lead through most of the game. However, at 23-22, UNC finally took a lead, and eventually took the set, 25-22, to earn the 3-0 win.
The Vandals will hit the road to close out the regular season. Idaho plays at Southern Utah on Tuesday, November 21, with first serve scheduled for 5:30 p.m. pacific time. The regular season finale will be at Northern Arizona on Saturday, November 23, before the Vandals head to the Big Sky Conference Tournament in Sacramento beginning November 28.
