MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho's rematch with Northern Colorado on Thursday night could not have looked more different than the first meeting, with the Bears running away for the 75-47 win.
THE GAME
While the first meeting needed an extra five minutes to determine a winner, Thursday night got out to a rough start for the Vandals. Northern Colorado came out with high intensity, forcing Idaho into four straight turnovers to start the game. The intensity continued throughout the opening frame, with the Bears forcing 13 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
UNC made the most of those opportunities, outscoring the Idaho 19-2 off of turnovers in the first half. The Bears would go on to take a 43-20 advantage into the break.
The pressure continued into the second half. The Bears forced nine more turnovers in the second, giving Idaho 22 to tie its season-high. Northern Colorado committed just six turnovers on the night, and took the win, 75-47.
THE NAME
Trevon Allen. Allen was the only Vandal to get going in the first half, scoring 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting in the opening frame. He would go on to finish with 15 points, two assists and four rebounds.
THE NOTES
Idaho falls to 4-20 on the season, including 1-12 in Big Sky play.
Cameron Tyson connected on a 3-pointer with 8:14 to play, giving him 310 points on the year and making Tyson the highest scoring freshman in program history. Tyson passed Sekou Wiggs, who scored 308 points during the 2013-14 season.
Scott Blakney had a strong night. He scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high eight boards.
Idaho outrebounded Northern Colorado, 34-31.
Losini Kamara made his first career start. He finished the night with three points, three boards and two assists in 21 minutes of action.
Head coach,
Don Verlin, announced during the pregame show that redshirt sophomore guard,
Chance Garvin, will miss the remainder of the season due to injury.
