Box Score BOISE, Idaho – A spirited late run came up just short for Idaho, as the Vandals were eliminated from the Big Sky Championship, presented by My Place Hotels, by Montana State, 75-71, in first round action on Wednesday afternoon.
THE GAME
The Vandals jumped out to a 10-0 advantage early, behind a pair of triples from
Cameron Tyson. It took Montana State nearly five minutes before the Bobcats got a bucket, but they were able to chip away for the remainder of the half and close strong to take the 32-30 advantage into the break. Tyson was the only Vandal to really get going in the first. He dropped 15 points in the opening half, connecting on four 3-pointers and all three of his free throws.
Montana State opened the second half in dominant fashion, and got up by as many as 15 points. The Vandals stayed locked in, however, and were able to it a game late. After a series of tremendous defensive efforts, and a missed free throw from the Big Sky's top free throw shooter, the Vandals had the ball down two with the shot clock turned off.
Trevon Allen had a shot from his favorite spot near the elbow, but it rimmed out.
Jared Rodriguez tracked down the rebound, but was swarmed by the Bobcats and was unable to gain full control.
Idaho got the ball back again, still down two, but a tough turnover near midcourt did the Vandals in. Montana State would go on to win, 75-71.
THE NAME
Trevon Allen. Allen came alive in the second half to help keep the Vandals in things. He finished with 21 points, including 19 in the second half, to pace the Vandals.
THE NOTES
