OGDEN, Utah—Idaho locked down its second conference win of the season on Saturday morning, downing Weber State, 4-3, at the Edman Tennis Courts.
Idaho claimed the early match lead sweeping the Wildcats in doubles action, going up 1-0. The Vandals duo
Valentin Popescu and
Esteban Santibanez defeated Weber State 6-4 at doubles No. 2, while at court one,
Carlos Longhi Neto and
Lucas Coutinho downed their competition 6-2.
Guilherme Scarpelli and
Bruno Casino closed the round with a 6-4 win at doubles No. 3.
In singles, Idaho took three matches and gave away three to the Wildcats. Tied 1-1, Longhi-Neto was able to put the Vandals back in front with a win on court one over Weber after Michiel Van Schoor retired in the third set. The Wildcats tied the match again after posting a win at doubles No. 4, but the Vandals were able to secure two wins at doubles No. 6 and 5 capturing the match. Casino bested Nick Werner, 6-2, 6-1 followed by a three-setter on court five where Coutinho outplayed Cezary Walkusz 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
