DONATE
MOSCOW, Idaho – Some things are bigger than the game. Idaho soccer has taken that notion to heart, and has signed on with Vs. Cancer to help raise money for cancer research during the spring season.
"Our team is passionate about giving back, and cancer is one of those things that touches everybody," said head coach,
Jeremy Clevenger. "It was a great opportunity for us to play a game and raise some money for a good cause."
The Vandal donation page can be reached through the link at the top of the article, and will stay open through Idaho's game against Eastern Oregon on April 27. Through Vs. Cancer, half of the proceeds raised by Idaho will be donated to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, with the other half going to a charity of choice. The Vandals have chosen Sacred Heart in Spokane, and will make the donation in Collin Sather's name. Sather, a student-athlete on the Idaho football team, passed away last week after his battle with cancer.
"It was a team decision," said Clevenger. "We brought the idea up with the football staff and coach
Paul Petrino last week. The Vandal Family is important to all of us, and this is our opportunity to honor Collin's memory. We hope that the Vandal community will get behind us and come out and support us and give back."
Vs. Cancer was created in 2006 when founder Chase Jones was diagnosed at 18 years old with a Stage IV brain tumor. As a baseball player at the University of North Carolina, his team rallied around him during treatment and began raising funds to support their local hospital. Jones attests his status of 10 years cancer-free as a result of national research efforts and community help.
