Enrique Marin 2018-19

Marin First Team, Sherrell Freshman of the Year

Enrique Marin makes All-Big Sky First Team for second straight year

04/25/2019

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Idaho men's golf senior Enrique Marin was named to the All-Big Sky First Team for the second consecutive year and Colt Sherrell earned Big Sky Freshman of the Year honors, while landing on the second team. Marin, Sherrell and the Vandals take aim at the Big Sky Conference Championships Friday through Sunday, at Boulder Creek Golf Club outside of Las Vegas.

Marin boasts a team-best 72.7 scoring average in nine tournaments this season. He secured top-25 finishes at eight of those nine events, including tying for fifth at the Husky Invitational in the fall. Marin enters the conference championship seeking his third top-10 finish at the event, including a third-place showing last year.

Sherrell closed the regular season with a 74.0 scoring average and played some of his best golf down the stretch. The Maple Valley, Wash., native shot 2-under at the Redhawk Invitational to finish a tournament under par for the first time in his career, including a season-best 4-under opening round.

Sherrell is Idaho's first freshman of the year in men's golf since Daniel Sutton in 2015. Sutton was also the last Vandal to make the first team in consecutive seasons (2015, 2016) before Marin's feat.

This marks the first time since 2016 the Vandals have been represented on both the first and second teams. Marin was the lone Idaho honoree last season and in 2017 he was joined on the second team by Ryan Porch.

Northern Colorado's Joshua Matz repeated as the league's Player of the Year. The Bears are the defending Big Sky champions. Idaho finished third last season and were projected to finish third again in the 2019 preseason coaches' poll.
