MTEN Senior Peter Shin Shares Most Memorable Moment

MOSCOW, Idaho— With graduation on the horizon, nostalgia is not too far away for many student-athletes as they look back on their time as Vandals. Peter Shin, a senior on the men's tennis team and an operations management and marketing double major, shared about his most memorable moments as a Vandal tennis athlete.

While tennis topped one of Shin's main reasons for attending Idaho, the university's business school is what drew him in as a senior in high school. Having a brother who graduated from the university, the opportunity to play the sport that he loved and learn at his top business school of choice, Idaho was no a brainer for the California native.

"I chose Idaho for its business school and the opportunity to play college tennis. I knew about the university from my brother, who is a 2012 graduate. With the help of the former coach, Abid Akbar, I was sold on attending Idaho."

Both tennis programs are known for their cultural make up when it comes to student-athletes. Shin, who is the only American born student-athlete on the roster has appreciated the experience that comes with having foreign teammates. One thing he loves most about his time at Idaho are the relationships created with his teammates and peers.

"Most of my teammates are foreign and it's been really cool to experience different cultures," said Shin.

When asked what it is like being a Vandal, Shin, could hardly find the words to describe his experience. After putting some thought into it he could not help to think of how being a part of a championship team has shaped his time through his four years. Shin has been a contributor to the championship culture of the men's program where they won the 2017 and 2018 Big Sky Men's Tennis Conference title and earned NCAA Championship berths in those years.

"My best memory as a Vandal is winning the Big Sky Men's Conference Title in 2017 and 2018," stated Shin. "While it was nice to the play outside in nice weather, it was an amazing feeling to see all of our hard work payoff. Holding up that trophy was a wonderful feeling. Also, as a kid PAC-12 tennis was something I love to watch and to step foot on their courts during the national tourney was an amazing experience."
