CORVALLIS, Ore. – The scoring drought ended on Thursday night for Idaho soccer, but undefeated Oregon State proved to be as-advertised in a 2-1 loss. Idaho falls to 2-7 on the season, and Oregon State moves to 8-0.
"All I wanted was to make strides and work on the things we've been working on to get ready for conference and I think we did that," said head coach
Jeremy Clevenger. "Oregon State is a good team, they're undefeated, and we went toe-to-toe with them, had the lead. Unfortunate to give up the late game-winner, but again I'm very proud of our performance today."
The Vandals got on the board first, in the 17
th minute. Idaho sent numbers forward after a foul near the Beaver bench and it paid off. The cross came in to the back post, but a failed clearance found its way to
Morgan Crosby. She headed it into the top right corner for her first goal of the season.
"They haven't given up many goals this year, just three," Clevenger said. "They're a good defensive team. I think that shows that we can score and it was just good to get that monkey off our backs."
Oregon State leveled the score in the 36
th minute, with Sophie Conrad firing from just outside the top of the box. Kaillen Fried would get the Beavers their game-winner in the 78
th.
Idaho closes out non-conference play at home on Sunday against North Dakota at 1 p.m.
"I told the team after the game that we have to build on this," said Clevenger. "We can't take steps backward. We have to grow. We know some of the standards and capabilities that this team has. We have to do our job and not overlook North Dakota and get ready for conference after that."
