Week in Review – 9.2

MOSCOW, Idaho – Fall sports are officially underway for Idaho Athletics, with football, volleyball and cross country getting their seasons started over the weekend.
 
VANDALS OF THE WEEK: Maddie Haas and Tre Walker pick up the first Vandals of the Week honors of the year.  Haas scored the game-winner on Friday night against Oregon Tech and continued her point streak to three matches with an assist on Sunday against Mississippi State.  Walker led the Idaho defense with eight tackles, including two for loss.
 
COMING UP: Soccer and football are both home this weekend.  Soccer hosts Seattle U. at 7 p.m. on Friday, and UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m. on Sunday.  Football hosts Central Washington at 6 p.m. on Saturday in the Kibbie Dome.
 
NEWS: Idaho Director of Athletics, Terry Gawlik, began her tenure with the Vandals on Sunday, Sept. 1.
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL: After three years of hard work, Chance Garvin was awarded a scholarship in a small presentation in the team video room.  Teammate and fellow fourth-year Vandal, Trevon Allen, did the honors.
 

 
FOOTBALL: Football season kicked off with a defeat at No. 15/14 Penn State, 79-7.

SOCCER: Vandal soccer went 1-1 on the weekend, picking up a 3-0 win over Oregon Tech and falling to Mississippi State, 2-1.  The Vandals move to 2-2 on the season, and host two more matches this weekend.
IN THE NEWS: Vandals hang with SEC Bulldogs
 
CROSS COUNTRY: The cross country squads opened up their seasons at the annual Clash of the Inland Northwest.  Both the men and the women finished third.
 
VOLLEYBALL: Volleyball opened the season with the Idaho Volleyball Classic.  The Vandals began the weekend with a four-set victory over Cal Baptist on Friday night.  Idaho dropped both matches on Saturday, including a four-setter to CSU Fullerton and a five set thriller to Illinois-Chicago.
