Vandals Sweep Vikings

MOSCOW, Idaho – Big Sky play got out to a great start for Idaho volleyball (5-8, 1-0 BSC) with a three-set win over Portland State (4-8, 0-1 BSC) on Thursday night in Memorial Gym.

"Obviously to win is always awesome, everybody wants to win," said head coach Debbie Buchanan.  "It was good for our confidence.  We had been battling these last four weeks of preseason, and we told the team we have to let it go."

Kennedy Warren once again led the Vandals in kills, finishing with 14 on 31 attempts.  Nikki Ball had another strong night in front, finishing with 12 kills.  As a team, the Vandals hit .285.

The first set went back-and-forth, with 14 ties and four lead changes.  The Vandals found themselves down 14-12, but went on a quick 7-2 run to take the lead.  PSU battled to tie things up at 19, but after trading points, Idaho took over and took the set, 26-24.

The second set was even closer, and saw 14 ties and five lead changes.  In the end, Idaho would go on to win, 25-23.  The Vandals were dominant in the third.  Idaho led by as many as seven early on and cruised to the 25-20 win.

Next up is another home match, taking on Sacramento State at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
