Idaho Men's Tennis begins the 2020 season with road matches against Utah and Utah State this week

MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Men's Tennis team will begin the 2020 regular season schedule on the road in Utah. On Thursday, Jan. 16th, the Vandals will take on the University of Utah Utes at 12 p.m. in Salt Lake City.

Idaho takes the court for the first time this season after finishing 5-15 overall and 2-8 in conference play last season. The Vandals were picked to finish seventh in the Big Sky Preseason Coaches poll that came out last week.

Idaho will meet Utah for just the seventh time all-time. The Utes lead the series overall 4-2, however the Vandals took the most recent matchup in 2013 4-1.

Utah finished 17-12 last year and will open their 2020 season against Idaho.

The Vandals bring a young roster into the 2020 season. The roster features eight freshman and two seniors. Among the freshmen is Althaf Dhaifullah who joined the Vandals this semester from Indonesia.

In the fall the doubles duo of senior Esteban Santibanez and freshmen Francisco Bascon-Perez had success by advancing to the ITA Regional Finals. The pair won five matches which included a win against the No. 42 doubles pair in the country, before falling in the final to Denver.

After taking on Utah the Vandals will round out the road trip with a stop in Logan, Utah to take on the Utah State University Aggies Saturday Jan 18th at 11 a.m.

Idaho holds a 13-9 advantage all-time over Utah State and will face them for the 22nd time all-time and the first time since 2016.

The Aggies finished 19-9 overall last season and begin the 2020 season 1-0.
