Women's Basketball signs five during early signing period

MOSCOW, Idaho-- Idaho Women's Basketball Head Coach Jon Newlee announced Monday the signing of five players to a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period. The signing class features five freshmen who will join the Vandals in 2021 from two different states and one Canadian province.

Ashlyn Wallace
5'6 | Guard | Clarkston, WA. [Clarkston HS]

Wallace is a 5'6 guard from Clarkston, Washington. She is entering her senior season at Clarkston High School. During three seasons at Clarkston HS Wallace has broken seven school records and is the all-time leader in career assists and three-pointers. In 2019 she eclipsed the 1,000-point mark. Wallace is a two-time All-Conference Great Northern League MVP and two-time AP 2A State All-Tournament First Team honoree. She was also named a 2018 and 2019 Adidas All-American. She was also named the 2020 Scorebook Live Washington 2A All-State Girls Basketball Player of the year.
In addition, Wallace starts for one of the top club teams in the country, the Northwest Blazers, who were the 2017 National Champion's and the 2019 runners-up.
In the classroom Wallace has earned Honor Roll recognition and is a member of the National Honor Society.

"Ashlyn is a lights out three-point shooter with an ability to score in a variety of ways. She has outstanding handles and great court vision, which combined with her passing ability makes her one of the top point guards in the country," said Newlee. "She starts for one of the top club teams in the nation and is coached by one of the best coaches in the country, Steve Klees. All of her experience playing at the highest level will be invaluable to her when she starts her Vandal career. I have wanted Ash to be a Vandal since she started coming to my camp at the age of 9. I knew she was going to be special then! I am so excited she is joining our Vandal Family!"
 
Jordan Allred
5'9 | Guard | Orinda, CA [Miramonte HS]
Allred is a 5'9 guard from Orinda, California. She is entering her senior year at Miramonte High School while also playing for the Cal Stars club team. During her high school career Allred has been recognized as a CIF All-State, EOT All-Tournament, Energy Classic All-Tournament, West Coast Jamboree All-Tournament (2x), and San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro team selection.
Last season Allred led Miramonte in scoring at 16.2 points per game. She also tallied 5.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.3 steals per game. Allred totaled 65 made three-pointer last season which was second on the team. In addition, Allred is a member of the 1,000-point club at Miramonte high.
Allred played for one of the best club teams in the country, Cal Stars, and was a member of the Nike 16 and 17 EYBL teams.
 
"Jordan is a great 3 point shooter and all around scorer. A strong physical player able to defend all over the perimeter and rebound the basketball," said Newlee. She has played at the highest level of club and high school basketball while being coached by one of the best in the country, Kelly Sopac. She is an excellent student, who's high energy and work ethic will fit perfectly in our program & Vandal Family!"
 
Madison Rubino
6'0 | Post | Snohomish, WA [Glacier Peak HS]

Rubino is a 6'0 post from Snohomish, Washington. She is entering her senior season after lettering three seasons for Glacier Peak High School. Last season Rubino recorded the game-winning block to secure third place in the state championship tournament. In addition to basketball Rubino lettered in track during her freshman year and broke the school record in the high jump. In the classroom, Rubino has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years.

"Madison is a strong physical player who can really run the floor. She is extremely atheltic and she plays with an extremely high motor," said Newlee. "She finishes well inside and can step out and shoot it. She will bring a great physical defensive presence for us inside as well. Madison is an excellent student and is another perfect fit for our program & Vandal Family!"
 
Skylar Bea
5'11 | Guard/Post | Washougal, Washington [Washougal HS]

Bea is a 5'11 guard/post from Washougal, Washington. She is entering her senior season for Washougal High School. During her high school career Bea was named Second Team All-League during her freshman season and earned First Team honors in both her sophomore and junior campaigns. Bea is three-time League Champion and 2018 2A State Champion. This past season Bea was named the team MVP after averaging 11.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and two blocks per game. Bea has been successful in the classroom as well throughout her high school career being named to the Honor Roll twice and the Dean's List.

"I am so excited to add another member of the Bea family to our program. Skylar is an extremely atheltic and physical player who will bring a great skill set inside and out for us," said Newlee. "She is a good shooter, who is also able to really rebound and bring a lot of physicality inside. She is an excellent student with a fantastic work ethic. A great fit for our program & Vandal Family!"
 
Makenna Jacklin
6-1 | Guard/Post | Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada [Okanagan Mission Secondary]

Jacklin is a 6'1 guard/forward from Okanagan Mission secondary school in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Jacklin's high school team has advanced to the provincial championship for the past four years, placing second in the 2020 Championships, the highest finish in school history. Last season Jacklin was named to the Provincial Championships All-Star Second team. Jacklin was also a member of the U15 British Columbia provincial team in 2018 and won the 2018 Canadian U15 National Championship. She was also a member of the 2019 Girls Under Armour Circuit and competed in the 2018 Provincial Championships for Volleyball. She also excelled in the classroom earning honor roll and Principal's list recognition each year.
  
"Makenna is a long and athletic player who is able to play the 2-5 for us. An excellent 3 point shooter who runs the floor extemely well; she also does a great job of finishing at the rim," said Newlee. "I am excited to be able to add another player with her international experience from Canada. Makenna is an excellent student and is going to be a fantastic fit for our program & Vandal Family!"
