Box Score LEWISTON, Idaho—The University of Idaho Women's tennis opened Big Sky Conference Play with a 5-2 win over Idaho State in Lewiston.

The Vandals fell behind early in the match by losing the doubles point, but won five out of six singles matches to win the match overall 5-2.


The Bengals won two out of three doubles matches to win the doubles point. Laura Spataro and Maggie Chen picked up their second doubles win of the season, defeating Hristina Cvetkovic and Megan Poe 6-4 in the No. 1 spot. The lone win wasn't enough for the point as the Bengals' Angela Walker and Alexandra Arkhipov topped Melissa Huchet and Marta Magalhaes 7-6 and Madison Fenske and Melissa Coburn defeated Shion Watabe and Nicole Horackek 6-1, to take the point for Idaho State.


In singles play Shion Watabe, Marta Magalhaes, Maggie Chen and Melissa Huchet each recorded two set sweeps of their opponents, clinching the win.
Huchet defeated Alexandra Arkhipov 7-5, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles spot for her second career singles win at Idaho.
Chen topped Melissa Coburn 7-6, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot while Magalhaes picked up her first singles win of the season 6-3, 6-0 over Megan Poe.
Watabe also grabbed her first singles win this season in the No. 6 spot with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Fenske in the no. 6 spot.


Laura Spataro earned the fifth point for the Vandals and her second singles win of the season with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Hristina Cvetkovic in the No. 1 spot.

"The girls played really well," said Head Coach Babar Akbar. "We didn't have the best start in doubles, but we fought very hard in singles and competed. I think the win is a good start to our conference campaign."
