Bascon Named Big Sky Player of the Week

FARMINGTON, Utah—For the first time this season Francisco Bascon has earned the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week honor as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

 This is the first Player of the Week award for Bascon, in his second year with the Vandals.  

Bascon competed in three matches last week for the Vandals, all in the No. 1 spot, earning three wins.

The Corboba, Spain native opened the season with a 6-3 doubles win against Gonzaga in the No. 1 spot on Wednesday Feb. 17, with his partner Matteo Masala.

In his first singles match of the season Bascon defeated Gonzaga's Matthew Hollingworth, 6-4, 6-2.

Bascon fell short in No. 1 spot against Washington in the second match of the week on Friday, Feb. 19.

In the third and final match of the week against Seattle U, on Saturday, Feb. 20, Bascon picked up another singles win. He defeated Lucas Cerbelli 6-3,6-2 for his third win of the week. The singles win helped propel the Vandals to their first win of the season, 5-2 over the Redhawks.
